Networking

We had our monthly book meeting yesterday and it was great! I always love going to the meeting. Sometimes though I wish it was more than once a month. Seems like I just can’t catch up in one day. :D

But yesterday’s question was “What is your favorite way to network?”

Mine answer was Facebook, blog, Twitter–all of them.

I’m not published yet, but I plan on it and when I do, I want as many people as possible to go out and buy my book! So I figure the more people who know me, the more I can sell. Makes sense right?

For a lot of people, networking is an evil word that makes them cringe. I think Marilyn will relate. hehe I enjoy it. Mostly. But it takes effort. I have found a few blogs where I like to visit, and in turn they started visiting my blog. It makes blogging on my site more fun, because well…people come to see what I have to say!! lol

Anyone who wants to get there name out there should have 3 things-

  1. Website– you must have this. It’s like having a business card.
  2. Blog– you can combine website and blog, like I have. It like a 2 in 1. It’s great and not as expensive as a website. :)
  3. Facebook- YES!  Join FACEBOOK! It’s wonderful! Very interactive and it’s a great place to advertise your book and your new blog posts. :)
  4. Okay, I know I said 3 but this one is really good too– TWITTER. This is fun and I’ve learned a lot about authors and publishers and have also won books through Twitter.

#4 is optional, but the first 3 are a must. (Yes, I’m still looking at you, Marilyn!) :P

So get your name out there! Whether your pubbed or pre-pubbed!

And you can find me at www.kiradaniels.com  — I’d love to see you there!!

  1. Kira,

I do facebook and I follow a few folk on Twitter. What amazes me is all the apps that pop up when something like that develops a following. There are tons of Twitter-esque apps that can be used to Twitter on different handheld devices.

I can hardly be bothered to turn my cell phone on, let alone let folks know when I’m standing in line LOL!!

I guess you could call me Twitter-pated. Meh. spw

LOL, Sandee! I have a very dear friend who’s quite twitterpated all the time. I believe it’s her favorite self-description. :-)

  2. I need to take lessons from you, Kira. My networking is usually limited to word of mouth….MINE. LOL I’m not a bit bashful about telling people I write romance. Only once or twice has anyone snickered or made a snide remark and I’ve always ignored it and kept talking in a very positive tone about my writing and soon they aren’t snickering anymore. They found out they couldn’t phase or embarrass me.

    But that’s about all I do. I need you to teach me how to be internet savvy cause when I sell I want everyone out there to come buy my book, too. Just like they’re going to buy yours. {g}

  3. I don’t twitter…but I have the Facebook, Myspace, etc. I do like the fact that I can Facebook from my phone. :-)

I know I should network more but it’s the time involved that has me in a crunch.

    Dear Kira,

    Pfffffffftttttttt!

I hate networking. I hate promoting.

You’re my Web person. You wanna be me online???

I’m with you, Marilyn. I hate networking. I’ve signed up for Facebook and Twitter, but haven’t used either yet. I’m still trying to catch up on stuff around here, so hope to get into them better next week. We’ll see how it goes. Though don’t plan on me telling you EVERY thing I’m doing. I’m not that public. :-)
