I Wanna Be

Every now and then, I bump into someone and after we exchange insurance (kidding) I think, I wanna be her when I grow up.

It doesn’t matter if that person is a man or several years younger than me or old as Methuselah’s grandmother. I want to be just like them one of these days.

(What I really want is to crawl inside their skin and see how they live life, but that sounds a little Silence of the Lambs-ish, doesn’t it? Shhh.)

I really don’t stalk these folks, but when they’re around, I pay attention. I listen to what they say, how they say it, and what they talk about. Attitude and the way they live life has a lot to do with the people I target appreciate. 🙂

I hesitate to name names, because I don’t want to make these people nervous (really, I’m harmless!) and it seems as if anytime I mention a person I admire, SOMEBODY knows some dirt on them. That hurts my heart.

There is one, though. (I never could keep a self-imposed secret.) Her name is Debbie Ohi, and I’ve enjoyed reading her tweets for some time.

She’s sharing, has a ton of enthusiasm and doesn’t mind looking less than perfect. The woman does so much, it makes me tired to read through a list. She not only writes, she’s also an illustrator.

One criteria for a person I wanna be is they have to make me laugh. And this woman does.

She had the first book she illustrated come out on September 4th. In preparation for the big day, someone (I suspect Debbie had a lot to do with it) set up a Scrapbook, there’s a page for pictures of people reading “I’m Bored” in the wild, and  you can find I’M BORED on Facebook, Google+ and the Simon & Schuster website.

AND there’s a video, as well as a song with lyrics.

I doubt I’ll buy “I’m Bored,” until I have at least one grandchild show up. Or maybe I’ll buy one now, just so I’ll have it when I need it!

Then the first time I hear the words, “I’m Bored” come out of the grandkiddlink’s mouth, I’ll slap the puppy into that baby’s hands.

Way to go, Debbie Ohi! I’m thrilled for you. And thanks for all the smiles you’ve sent my way.

  1. I, unlike many folks my age, refuse to grow up. It is not and never will be my intention. I’ve struggled to be what/where/who I am. Besides that, my lovely Bride likes me just the way I am. 🙂
